Drum Corps

Has anyone here on the HOD ever been a member of a drum corp? I have a friend of mine who is a killer drummer who taught a local high school band in the drum corp/military style.

I have a copy of a cd featuring the Royal Scotland Dragoon Military Band.The drums sound killer!

I wonder if there are anymore recordings available anywhere featuring drum corp/military style bands?

Are you talking military style or DCI / WGI style? I'm a pretty big DCI/WGI fan. Almost march both but $$ and the distance wasnt working for me so I had to bail. I still might in the years to come... I have some audio on my website www.shotdrum.com of some dci and college stuff. http://www.vicfirth.com/features.html (go down 2 marching) has some good stuff. www.drumlineparkinglot.net has some GREAT solo stuff but their down at the moment. www.drumhard.com has some good solo and drumline stuff too.

I did DCI Corps for 3 years. (92, 93, 94) I enjoyed it a lot but it's not for everyone.

Don't know of any sites that offer music though. I haven't followed it since I stopped.

I was in a DCI drum line from 1994-1999 and then taught for a couple years after performing. It is one of the best places to build a technical foundation for future drumming endevors. I can't even begin to count how many times that background has helped me.

I was thinking more along the lines of the group
"Drums of Black Bottle" or maybe "Hip Pickles".

Both groups have performed at the MD festival.

Something featuring the drums and/or drumlines.

I played in ccompetitive bagpipe bands playing Scottish style rudimental drumming for around 10 years in the University of Chicago Pipe Band and Chicago Caledonian Pipes and Drums (it's an all ages welcome activity).

It was invaluable to me. Not just rudimentally, but also in terms of phrasing, timing and polyrhythms. I still practice the style every day, along with double bass and groove ostinato stuff.

You can search kazaa and other programs like that for dci or drumlines and you'll get a ton of cool stuff.
